Mercia School Placed 2nd Nationally for GCSE Results
Mercia School has been recognised as one of the top-performing schools in the country, ranking second nationally for pupil progress according to the latest Progress 8 data.
This government measure tracks how much academic progress pupils make between primary school (Key Stage 2) and their GCSEs (Key Stage 4).
With a score of +2.09, Mercia School’s performance far exceeds the ‘well above average’ benchmark of +0.5, placing it among a select few schools nationwide.
Disadvantaged pupils at Mercia School have also excelled, securing a remarkable Progress 8 score of +2.12, ranking second out of over 6,500 secondary schools in England.
Joshua Fisher, who will become the school’s sole headteacher in January 2025, praised the hard work and dedication of the pupils, their families, and the teaching staff:
First and foremost, these outstanding figures are down to our phenomenal pupils, who work exceptionally hard and are a joy to teach.
They are brilliantly guided by their families - these results would not be possible without their ongoing support.
In addition, our dedicated teachers know their subjects inside-out and commit incredible amounts of time to the pupils.
Dean Webster, Mercia School’s founding headteacher and now Mercia Learning Trust’s Executive Director of Secondary Standards, highlighted the long-term impact of these achievements:
These results show a continued fulfilment of the school’s mission – every child, no matter their background or need, can and will succeed in their academic careers so they can enjoy a happy life after school.
We are extremely proud of them.
Mercia Learning Trust would like to thank the team of staff and governors at Mercia School for another exceptional year for our pupils.
